Its quite possible that....

I am THE most boring mother alive.

Seriously.

Ask my eight year old.

I've gotta get my ass in gear for the summer. And I, apparently in my old age have lost all imaginative capabilities and the ability to be fun. I am the suck.

So, dear internet friends....any ideas?

No stone throwing please. As I'm feeling fragile.

Teach him how to do laundry.

He can show his dad.

When I was about 8 and we lived in New Haven, my dad, at the spur of the moment took me and one of my friends up to Riverside Park (Agawam,MA - I hear it has another name now) and we got there at 9 pm and since it was so late we got a deep discount, and got to stay until the park closed at the unheard of late hour of midnight (gasp) and I thought my dad was the coolest dad ever!

I later found out he was a bored insominiac, but that's a later story..

Why would you get stoned for that? I mean if you were asking if he was too young for sex, drugs and booze fair enough. As it is all that is left is rock'n'roll, introduce him to your record collection.

Hand him a book and kick him outside, and tell him he can't come home until he's finished reading it and climbed at least three trees, and you expect him to make at least one friend that will attest to the tree-climbing. Per tree.

Fishing, sprinkler time, any of the local parks with a picnic lunch, drive-in movies (2 for the price of one!), library always has fun activities....and my house is ALWAYS a blast. Lots of new and exciting things here every day. Ok, maybe not, but still.

I'm not one to give advice on "doing stuff". My idea of a busy day is one that involves me leaving my couch for more than a couple of hours.

How about a hike...pack a lunch and find a mountain/forest trail to get lost on :) Boys love adventures. Or how about chip and putt? Or horse-back riding? Or maybe some kind of charity work? Your son might be too young for that but maybe there is something you guys can do together.

You are not a sucky mom, Sarah. Not by any stretch of the imagination.

I am pretty sure that you are NOT the most boring mother alive. I wish I could make suggestions, but there isn't a whole lot of things to do for little money around here either for kiddos. We do have a Children's Museum, but I was going to suggest a nice park to run and play, the library suggestion was good, and a local pool.

Good luck! I am sure you will come up with some good ideas :)

By the way...thanks for your comments!!! We are soooooooooo excited and still kind of in shock!

Laura- Thanks!

X- You are such a snarky little shit sometimes.

Laura(again?- Heh, gotta love the insomniac parents. Funny story.

WFI-Records? Do people still own those?

Rass- Bwahahahahaha! My kid hates reading. Which is weird considering his step dad and I are avid readers. He does it, but only when I force him. Summer reading for school is gonna be soooo much fun.

Casey- We'll have to set up a date!

Gwen- All great ideas. From you and everyone else. =)

Megs- Eee! Congratulations AGAIN! Yea, now that I have removed my head form my ass and taken a breathe, I think we're good. Just a moment of panic when I realized we had the whole summer ahead of us and he was already "bored"

You have a ropes course in your area? Or laser tag? Just took my 8 year old nephew to both and he seemed pleased...
